About the course

This course is designed to provide you with the essential knowledge needed to succeed as a member of the Practice by Numbers (PbN) team. Because our product delivers software solutions for dental practices across North America, you must master the fundamental processes of the dental industry to effectively support our customers and understand where our software adds value.



*This training is mandatory for all new employees, especially those from a non-clinical or non-dental background.

What's in it for you....?

The Patient Journey

You will follow the seven stages of dental care, from the first appointment to long-term follow-ups. Learning this cycle helps you understand how clinical work turns into the data we manage.

Common Procedures

You’ll learn about the most frequent dental treatments and the official codes used for them, such as D1110 for cleanings. This connects real-world doctor visits to the records you will see.

Specialist Referrals

You will learn to identify when a case becomes too complex for a general dentist. We’ll cover when a patient needs to be sent to a specialist for advanced work like surgery or root canals.

What's in it for you....?

Software Tools

You will discover how Practice by Numbers (PbN) modules solve daily office problems. You’ll learn to use tools like the Ops Board for daily tasks, Revenue Analytics for tracking money, and Reactivation Campaigns to bring patients back.

Billing Differences

You will learn how to handle payments across North America. We will explain the critical differences between using CDT codes in the U.S. and the various Provincial Fee Guides used across Canada.

Privacy Compliance

You will learn the essential rules for keeping patient data safe. We will compare the legal requirements for the U.S. (HIPAA) versus the Canadian standards (PIPEDA/PHIPA) to ensure you stay compliant in both regions.

Knowledge Review

You will be tested on everything covered in the course, including dental terms, how to use Practice by Numbers modules, and the different legal rules for the U.S. and Canada.

Passing Requirements

You will learn the specific standards needed to complete your training. This includes answering at least 9 out of 10 questions correctly to reach the mandatory 85% passing score.

Practical Readiness

By completing this final step, you will prove that you have the skills needed to support dental offices. You'll receive instant feedback on your answers so you can learn from any mistakes immediately.
